The At Promise Academy seeks to address the ongoing challenges young African American male students face in “at-risk communities” by ensuring that students have the well-rounded support and robust set of services they need to excel in their academics and become “At Promise” instead of “At Risk. Our program has Certified Teachers to tutor in the subjects of Math, Language Arts, and Science. We are seeking African American male students in the sixth grade to start our academy.

At Boys With A Purpose, staff are unwavering in their mission to save the lives of young men across the globe. It’s all too easy to become indifferent as we navigate through life, but their organization was founded on the belief that they cannot ignore the real challenges in our communities. Boys With A Purpose confronts these issues head-on, dedicating ourselves to those who need their support the most. Their purpose is clear: to empower and prepare young men to lead lives of impact and productivity. Together, they are shaping the future, one young life at a time.

As our mission, the Foundation works to connect boys and young men of color to the strategies they need to secure socioeconomic success by delivering innovative leadership and professional development programs for college and career readiness, facilitating connection with professional opportunities, and transforming academic policies and practices.

The Durham Business and Professional Chain’s Rites of Passage Mentoring Program helps African-American young men learn to take responsibility, develop positive life skills, and lead more successful lives.

Durham Nativity School is dedicated to providing a nurturing and enriching learning environment along with a comprehensive twelve-year support system tailored for middle school boys. Our aim is to empower students who possess the determination to excel academically, but may lack the means for a high-quality independent school education. By integrating comprehensive academics and growth, we nurture the inherent potential of every child, placing significant emphasis on the value of knowledge, ethical principles, academic competence, self-control, and the cultivation of character. Achieved through the implementation of smaller class sizes, extended school hours, and an enriched academic calendar, our approach is dedicated to instilling a sense of selflessness, shaping the next generation of exemplary individuals, and fostering pioneers within our community.

Our mission is to increase access to business education, mentorship, and professional networking opportunities for young, Black men between 16 and 24 years old in Durham.
