More About the Scholarship

What is the scholarship?

The Outstanding Youth Leaders of the Year Scholarship award is a half-tuition, renewable scholarship that will be awarded to three prospective college students who demonstrate success within their respective mentoring programs.

The scholarship covers a total of $20,000 over four years, or $5,000 yearly. Each recipient will be featured in a video to be shown at Youth Mentoring Collaborative's Carolinas Youth Mentoring Symposium and will be awarded a laptop.

The scholarship is presented by Youth Mentoring Collaborative, in partnership with the Ciara Arts and Science Foundation.

Requirements

  • Mentoring programs must be affiliates of Youth Mentoring Collaborative.
  • Students must be a junior or senior in high school.
  • 3.0 GPA minimum (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Intend to major in the arts or sciences.
  • Answer the prompt via essay or video format (see below).

Timeline

  • Application opens August 22nd, 2022
  • Application closes September 30th, 2022
  • Finalist interviews October 14th - 16th, 2022

Great question!

You can apply below by clicking the button "Apply Here." The button will take you to a Google Form called "Scholarship Application." You'll answer a series of long and short answer questions; you must complete ALL required questions* to be considered for the Scholarship. 

The final question requires the creation and submission of either a video, no longer than 7 minutes, or an essay, no less than 750 words. If you decide to submit a video, we recommend uploading it to YouTube or Vimeo and sharing the link with us by pasting it into the final question box on the application form. If you decide to write the essay, please either send us a link to your document or paste the text into the final question box on the application form. Caution - beware of formatting changes when copying and pasting answers into the Google Form.
